My brother called. He just bought a new 2019 IS300 AWD that had been sitting around for 10k off sticker. I believe that makes this 18k cheaper than the new IS350 F-sport he walked away from two months ago after some haggling. They even g ave him market value for his old IS250 he was listing privately.
Hopefully I’ll be in better shape for the next recession/pandemic and jump on some of these alleged deals everyone is getting. So many new-to-me cars up and down my the streets of my neighborhood...

I should trade the GTI in on an LC500 if it helps rub salt in the wound.
And get the vanity plate TERCEL while I’m at it.
With that being said, it really is a good time to buy. Hopefully your time comes soon.

I would threaten to kill you, but then ultimately drive off a cliff an a cool, autumn evening — after I ran the idea by my wife.
After what I suspect will be an unpleasant conversation, I’ll just go back to adjusting the idle screw on my carburetor.

I was actually thinking if I should trade both my cars in for a CT4-V Blackwing when it comes out. It would be putting my money where my mouth is and actually buying a brand new manual car.
But then that’s just a thought. Both my cars combined likely can’t even be worth the down for one, lol.

One day everyone has new cars and is putting a highly secure face on it. When the mask drops 6 months later , it really drops. I’d give the entire saga zero attention and go on living your own life.

I’m happy to not have had a car payment in 17 years, and dread the day I have another. Be happy with the money you’re saving and proud of what you are driving.

There is something immensely satisfying about driving any car you know you entirely own free from any bank or dealer.

I’ve never had a car payment and I suspect I never will

Some one in my town just got a really nice metallic grey IS FSport. It looks very good nice to his grey G-body Monte SS. I should try to get a pic next time I drive by.

I am jealous that you apparently have cars you would want to buy readily available. I could barely find what I wanted at a halfway-decent price when I needed to buy a replacement .

I’ve only not had a car payment for 2 months. And I’m already tempted to jump back in. I told my wife I’m not getting another vehicle until we decide we need a bigger boat. I’m hoping that’ll be 2-3 years from now.

For what it’s worth I think your Lexus IS prettier

Put it off as long as possible. The longer the time that you don’ t have a car payment the more money you can save towards the boat.

Perhaps, but the PNW tax is real. Plus you want a Toyota or any old 4x4? Fughetaboutit

Agreed! I’ve always felt it freeing knowing I owe nobody anything for my cars an
d that I own them outright!

I wouldn't be that cynical, or call it a saga. My brother and I are Toyota fanbois and he just wanted to share something he knew I would appreciate.

I think you'd be stupid to think that this is really a so-called "once in a generation/lifetime event." 2008 housing bubble? 9-11? Covid? How can it be so unheard of when all this happened before I hit my mid 30s? Answer: it isn't and it won't be.

He should get it tuned so it makes IS350 horsepower. Its ridiculous Lexus sells both the IS300 and IS350 and the only difference is 260 vs 311 hp. In the AWD trim, theyre both the tried and true 3.5L lexus V6. And the 350 comes with quite a bit higher price tag, for no good reason.
Oh and the RWD IS models get the 8 speed auto, and the RWD IS300 gets a 2.0L turbocharged 4 cylinder. And with 241 hp and 258 lb ft of torque, its probably pretty quick. The Is models get quite confusing.

My last vehicle payment was on a motorcycle. There was an offer at the time of purchase, 90 days same as cash. I decided to leave the money in the bank to earn a wee b it of interest, then payed in full just as the 90th day arrived.

The last pandemic was in 2009. Had a friend get very fucked up by H1N1. The world was a much different place then.

Yes! The feeling of not being beholden to someone or else your possessions that you think are yours will revert to the person that actually owns them. To me, that is worth more than the feeling of niceness.

I forgot the IS 300 gets a V6 with AWD for no reason! And they say BMW nomenclature is off the rails...

I actually got the H1N1 vaccine. I’ve met very few people who have heard of the vaccine, let alone got it.

And many more would be surprised to find out that it is the same virus that caused the 1918 pandemic (only took us 90 years to develop a vaccine for that bad boi).
Yet here we are, on a car enthusiast blog where fucking retired medical doctors are asking if it is normal for brakes to get hot...
We’re fucked.

They’re apparently paying a lot for used cars right now. If there was anything worth buying (maybe a GTI or Golf R), I might consider it, but I still like my car, so there’s no reason to replace it. Plus I’m hoping to refinance my house shortly (it’s in progress, but taking a while), so no major purchases for me.
Now that rates are dropping even more, I am a little disappointed I did the rate lock when I did. It was a calculated risk, but they continued to drop after rising slightly (I didn’t think they could drop much more before the market for debt started drying up. As it is, they’re probably rolling some questionable loans with higher interest into MBSs these days just to show half decent returns. ).

Yeah, his era ones were much nicer looking than modern ones.
![]() 08/10/2020 at 01:43 |

Yeah, at the rate they’re hitting, something is very wrong. Our generation was already screwed, and it just keeps getting worse. I lived through the dot-com crash that destroyed demand for people in my industry just as I was starting for nearly five years. Three years later there was a deep recession that left demand low for another 4-5 years. This last stretch is the longest period of decent demand in my industry that I’ve seen since I became an adult.
I’ve made a killing in the markets on three once-in-a-lifetime buying opportunities and I’m not even 40 yet.

Using the same 3.5L V6 was, as I recall, done because the turbo-4 didn’t have a flat enough torque curve for the AWD. And the old 2.5 and 3.0 engines were fairly terrible anyway, so they went with the much better 3.5 and the new turbo-4.

Not really in the same league.

It occurred to me you might think I was talking about your brother. It was about this. “E veryone” for blocks around but you managing to outpace reality is highly unlikely. As you said, your brother rubbed it in.
So many new-to-me cars up and down my the streets of my neighborhood...

60 million infections in the first year of the pandemic. Unlike covid, most of the deaths were people under the age of 65. Much less deadly on account of older people already having antibodies.
Definitely in the same league, we’d just been exposed to it before. We’re trying to ensure people don’t have antibodies for this one, so we’ll be fucked if we don’t develop a vaccine.

Wow had no clue there was this much WTF going on with their model designations. Crazy!
